In November 2017, Hikmah Club will again meet for a private dinner. The dinner's guest speaker will be the former Telegraph columnist and now Mail on Sunday columnist, Dan Hodges.
This month's Hikmah Dinner was held next door to London Bridge, overlooking the River Thames. The guest speaker was Guardian columnist and Radio 4 presenter Jonathan Freedland. Jonathan started the dinner's conversation off by covering the question, 'Why did the Guardian get the General Election so wrong?'. From there, discussion ranged through the rise of Islamophobia, hope for British Muslims, and finally on lessons we could all take from the dinner.
Of particular interest was the insight from thought leaders in attendance. Shadow cabinet ministers, former ambassadors and influential youth workers all had something to say and lessons to be shared. Jonathan in particular wanted to share how worthwhile the dinner was. Held near St Paul's Cathedral, the July 2017 Hikmah Club played host to Naz Shah MP and Maha Akeel as guest speakers. Naz Shah is the returning MP for Bradford West. Naz shared her reflections on: ‘Bradford West; defending a seat with highest number of Muslims in the UK’ Maha Akeel is a Director at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. Maha spoke about: 'The Muslim UN; Understanding the role of the OIC in the world today’

This month, the Hikmah Club hosted Rabbi Laura Janner-Klausner, Senior Rabbi to Reform Judaism UK. The dinner was hosted in association with the Movement for Reform Judaism and explored the question of "How can British Muslims and Jews work together to help resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict?". Other attendees included a lecturer from Duke University, US, a columnist for Vice Magazine and an editor from BBC Newsnight.
This month Hikmah Club met for a dinner and chaired Q&A with Baroness Doreen Lawrence. Baroness Lawrence has long been a campaigner for justice since the murder of her son Stephen and her efforts lead to a ground breaking inquiry into the Metropolitan Police's treatment of minorities in 1999. The Baroness was awarded an OBE for her services to community relations in 2003 and late made a peer for life in 2013. Since 2016 she has served as the Chancellor of De Montfort University, Leicester.
This month's Hikmah Club meeting hosted Sajjad Karim MEP, Chair of the European Parliament's Standards and Ethic Committee. At the dinner, Sajjad spoke on the topic of "Making a stronger case for increased British involvement in the EU". Sajjad holds the honour of being the first European born and British Muslim elected to the European Parliament. He was first elected in 2004 and was re-elected in 2009.
